Considering remote work possibilities for your team? Automating accounting processes eliminates the need for face-to-face approvals, organizing, scanning and payments.

Remote work enables flexibility for employees and companies alike. It's a selling point for the top talent companies are looking for and, it's been proven to increase employee morale and actually increase the amount of productive work they do. It also reduces costly workplace pitfalls, like sick days and employee turnover.

A solid remote work process ensures there is no dip in productivity when employees can't make it to a physical address for work.

In order for remote teams to operate successfully, you need to have the right tools in place.

Luckily, Roger makes it easier for finance teams. We enable businesses and accountants to completely remove the need for in-person expense approvals, handover of expense documents, scanning, organizing and more.

How accounting automation powers a work-from-home policy

Are you looking to implement a remote work or work-from-home policy for your team? Having the right tools in place makes the transition smoother and easier.

Often, companies rely on paper and printers to handle things like expenses. Employees have receipts and invoices from vendors. They scan them, print them and drop them on a manager's desk for approval.

This entire process requires face-to-face contact in a physical office. But, that entire process can be moved online.

Roger eliminates the need for manual scanning and approvals. With Roger, it's as easy as taking a photo of a receipt or bill and uploading it to Roger via our mobile app. The document is scanned using advanced scanning technology, the entire document is stored in Roger and all of the financial and vendor data is extracted so Roger knows when to pay the vendor and which payment method to use.

On top of that, Roger automates the approval process.

You can set Workflow rules to send expenses to the correct people for approval. This happens automatically when an expense is uploaded. You upload a vendor invoice for $1,000 and every invoice over $1,000 needs two people's approval? Roger will automatically ping those two people, via Slack or email and inside Roger's web and mobile apps to approve it.

As soon as it's approved, Roger pays it for you according to the payment date you set, with the payment method your vendor chooses from the bank you want to pay it from - all under the protection of a secure third-party banking platform.

Roger gives you the peace of mind that your accounting operation is running smoothly because you customize it according to what you want. When you design your process and automation handles the rest, it gives you the security you need in a remote working environment.

Plus, Roger keeps a record of all communication between teammates on every expense and every vendor profile, so no important conversations are lost between channels. This kind of record-keeping in communication is a core component of running a successful remote company.

Helping accountants optimize remote work

If you're an accountant or bookkeeper, chances are you spend a lot of time interfacing with your clients. A good percentage of that time is spent chasing down receipts, vendor payment information and handling manual payments.

When you introduce Roger to your clients, you no longer need to chase them for paper documents and knock down doors. It's as easy as uploading them to Roger via our mobile or desktop app.

Plus, Roger automates functions like categorizing expenses, eliminating the need to chase down additional information about how to organize expenses.

Using our library of integrations, Roger syncs everything to accounting systems like QuickBooks or Xero, so payments are reconciled and all of the data associated with them is recorded - no manual work required.

For accounting firms, automation enables you to do just as much for your clients, without needing to physically go to their office to handle payments or organize expense documents.

Remote work best practices

The Roger team is distributed across the globe. We have physical offices in Copenhagen and San Francisco, with remote workers in places like Portugal, Canada, Mexico and across the United States.

We've focused on remote work from the start. So, we've learned the best ways to communicate and work together as a team.

Here are some of our top tips for running a successful remote team:

- Meet weekly as a team. Emphasize video. Ensure your team can meet via video call at least once a week to sync up on progress, strategic items and milestones. This ensures everyone knows what everyone else is working on and reminds people they are part of a team, pulling for the same goals.
- Strong project management. Use a project management tool to organize tasks and ensure communication happens there, rather than fragmented between email and Slack.
- A well-organized communication channel. If your team is using something like Slack, ensure there are specific channels for specific projects. Don't forget to be human! Have a channel for celebrating personal things like birthdays, weddings and new babies.
